Chawton is proud of its heritage and has tried exceptionally hard to maintain the village as it was in Jane Austen's days. To a large extent, the village remains unaltered to this day.

Clearly the link Chawton has with Jane Austen and her family is one of the reasons the village is as popular as it is today. We recieve over 30,000 visitors each year from all around the world, all who have been inspired enough by her works to want to visit the place that inspired such masterpieces.
