Jane Austen lived in Chawton from 1809 until just before her death in 1817, whilst in the village she wrote and revised a number of books including Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice, which she had written some years earlier, and then wrote Mansfield Park, Emma and Persuasion.

Chawton The Last 100 Years |

To mark the Year 2000 and to ensure that our village history is captured for future generations, Chawton produced a book marking the last 100 years. This book gives a great insight into the village and shows how little its changed over time. Copies of the book can be purchased in the Jane Austen House Museum |
