Parish Council Elections

Print PDF

Due to the local elections on May 5th 2011, the current parish councillors term of office comes to an end on the same date. Although many of the current parish council intend to apply for a further term of office, now is an ideal opportunity for you to do something for your village.

So, if you don't agree with what the parish council have been doing on your behalf, now is your chance to replace us !!. Alternately, if you want to get involved in supporting your community, then join us and help shape the village for the future.

Virtually anyone over 18 can stand as a councillor, the main qualification is that candidates live or work in the area and want to do something positive for their community. You can read more about becoming a parish councillor at the EHDC web site

For an application form, you can either apply directly to EHDC by contacting Hannah Smith, Acting Elections Manager at EHDC on 01730 234093. Alternately our parish clerk, Mandi Sowik has copies of the applications forms. Forms must be received back by EHDC between 25th March and noon on 4th April.

* Usual registration limitations apply - you must live within the parish to have an account.

Winter Provisions

Hampshire County Council have detailed their winter arrangements, which affect Chawton. The full article can be found here.

Chawton now has its grit bins in position and these are expected to be filled in the next couple of days. The bins are notable as they are in black and gold and have been placed to minimise their visibility. If you notice that any of the bins are not full up in the future, please contact HCC on 0845 603 5633 who will refill them.

Chawton parish council and Chawton Village Hall would like to thank everyone who attended our popular fireworks event last Saturday evening. We hope you enjoyed our show.

We have a number of items of lost property such as gloves, childrens hats etc. If you lost anything on the night, please call Chawton Village Hall on 01420 448234 and leave a description of your lost property (type, colour, size, etc) along with your phone number.

If we can match your property to that which we've found, we will call you back to arrange collection.

Thank you.

Fireworks 2010

Print PDF

Chawton is once again holding its popular bonfire and fireworks event on Saturday 6th of November.

The event is held at Chawton Cricket club, behind the main recreational ground. Access and viewing is via the recreational ground opposite the school, or from the village car park. The bonfire will be lit at 6:30 with the fireworks following once the bonfire is going well.

 The event will feature :

  • The Bonfire
  • Free sparkers for children
  • Hot and cold drinks (tea, coffee and a selection of soft drinks)
  • Hot food - hot dogs & soup
  • The fireworks

Following last years event, we will have more people serving food and drinks to reduce the queues.

We hope you enjoy our fireworks night and would like to stress that the event is funded solely by donations on the day, so please give generously so that we can continue to run this event in future years. We recommend a donation of £5-£10 per adult (accompanied children free) - but you are very welcome to donate more. The more you give, the bigger the spectacle we can provide next year.

If you wish to bring your own sparklers, these must be lit in the designated area - both for safety reasons for others and to help minimise the clear up the following day.

Free parking is provided in the village car park, the village hall car park and on-street. Please do not park in the pub car park unless you are planning to eat there, nor on the village green, since we need to maintain access during the event for emergency access.

If you have materials for the bonfire, please take these to "Simons strip" (by the stream)

We are building the bonfire during the morning from about 9:30am and our annual clear-up takes place from 9:00 on the sunday morning, all are welcome to come along and help.
