Bad Weather Information

Print PDF

Due to the disruption cased by the ongoing bad weather, EHDC have provided the following information and news including updates on refuse collection. This comes from the main EHDC Web Site and East Hampshire News.

The main site provides the standard refuse collection dates (and a printable calendar for a specific post-code). The news site reports on the 8th of January that refuse collection has been suspended. The advice from EHDC is :

"With many of the district's roads still dangerously icy bin collections have been suspended until further notice. Residents are advised to put their bins out on the scheduled collection day, trying not to block pavements, and leave them out until the service resume"

Update : 14/01/2010 - EHDC have stated that they expect all green refuse bins in Chawton to have been emptied by Wednesday 20th January and if any bins have not been emptied by then, please contact their customer services line on 01730 234295

The new look Chawton web site

Print PDF

Welcome to the new look Chawton village web site.

Two years after we launched this site, we have had to update to a new, faster server to cope with the increasing number of visitors we get each month. So, we took the opportunity to update to newer hosting software, which will allow for greater security and flexibility in the coming years.

You will find that the site looks a little different, but you should find that everything that you used before is still here and will work in a similar way. We have all the same news, events, advertising and historic information - in the same places.

A couple of parts of the site are a little different - for example the sliding photos on the right have been temporarily removed, but should be back soon, you may also find that the URL's for articles may have changed due to the new software. The search box in the top right corner will help you locate things quickly.

We think that everything is working properly, but if you find a problem or would like to suggest something extra for the site, then please let us know

Chawton Open Gardens 2009 - A Thank you

Print PDF
ImageI would like to give a huge thankyou to all those involved in the Open Gardens Weekend in June. There was a terrific turnout, some 900 people came to our village and everyone seemed to have a great time.

An awful lot of hard work was put in by a lot of people in terms of organisation, it is difficult to name individuals but my personal thanks go to Flair Kitching and Mandi Sowik who worked tirelessly for the event.

My special thanks go to the gardeners who had made their gardens look spectacular and who without; we would not be able to host this lovely event.

ImageSunday morning saw a small group of determined villagers and volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association return to kick off the bi-annual village litter pick - ahead of the various summer activities within the village - starting with the Open Gardens on the 13/14th of June

The litter-pick only took 2-3 hours but collected an amazing 20 full bags of rubbish from around the village.
