I would like to give a huge thankyou to all those involved in the Open Gardens Weekend in June. There was a terrific turnout, some 900 people came to our village and everyone seemed to have a great time. An awful lot of hard work was put in by a lot of people in terms of organisation, it is difficult to name individuals but my personal thanks go to Flair Kitching and Mandi Sowik who worked tirelessly for the event.
My special thanks go to the gardeners who had made their gardens look spectacular and who without; we would not be able to host this lovely event.

Although Chawton is not on the coast, we have a little bit of naval history via HMS Chawton, which was a "Ton Class" (Wood) minesweeper / minehunter.
Chawton Village Hall is currently fundraising to extend the rear of the hall to provide much needed storage and a small meeting room. A total of £80,000 is required for this extension, so far we have raised £48,450 ahead of the works that start in August this year.
Hilary Benn, the environment secretary today confirmed the boundary of the South Downs National Park. As expected, Chawton has been confirmed to be within the park.
