Hampshire County Council have been in contact and asked for help in reporting any potholes in the local roads following the recent cold weather. Clearly this doesn't have to be constrained to potholes in the village !
Please see the attached letter from HCC
Dear Sir/Madam
Pothole Repairs Programme
The snow and freezing weather we experienced during February is now causing detrimental affects on the road network across the Country. Many local authorities are experiencing increased reports of potholes developing on their roads.
Hampshire roads have not escaped the effects of this and we too are experiencing more potholes than we would normally experience.
A pothole forms when water gets into the road structure and then freezes. This causes the water to expand and the surface of the road breaks open. Although this can happen on any road surface, it generally tends to affect rural roads more as they have generally evolved from tracks and their construction has a thinner layer of bituminous material when compared to urban roads which have generally been designed.
Hampshire County Council and its Councillors place great importance on the maintenance of roads as they are an important asset that provides accessibility for Hampshire residents.
In this respect the Environment Department would encourage your Parish Council to report any potholes to the County Council by one of the following methods
• phone Hantsdirect on 0845 6035633,
or
• by email to the following address ‘
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
’
or
• via the defect reporting system at the following address www3.hants.gov.uk/roads.
Parishes have often in the past been very helpful by reporting potholes to the County Council and we would like to continue that relationship. If you have defects in need of urgent repair please carry on reporting these in your normal way.
I would like to thank you in advance for your continued support
Yours faithfully
Colin Taylor
Area Director
