Jane Austen - Brief History

ImageJane Austen lived in Chawton from 1809 until just before her death in 1817, whilst in the village she wrote and revised a number of books including Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice, which she had written some years earlier, and then wrote Mansfield Park, Emma and Persuasion.

The best way to find out more about Jane Austen is to visit her home, here in Chawton. The house is now run as a museum
